July 28 - August 2, 2023

Mabel Lake Community Hall on the Shuswap River, near Lumby, BC

Come join us for Jam Camp on the River! Jam Camp 2023 was a blast, and we can’t wait to see you all on the river again for Jam Camp 2024!

Dates

Jam Camp on the River 2024 will begin on Sunday, July 28th. Campers are invited to arrive anytime after 10am and have the afternoon to set up, with the welcome potluck taking place that evening at 5 pm to start off the camp.

The last full day of camp will be Thursday August 1st, with our final performance taking place that evening.

Friday, August 2nd will be a free day for packing up camp, saying goodbyes, and taking your last dip in the river before you go.

The full schedule of the week’s events will be sent out closer to the date, but will be similarly structured to those of past camps (see Past Camps for more info).

Fees

Jam Camp Registration Fee

All folks participating in Jam Camp who are aged 4 and up will pay a sliding scale registration fee of $200 to $500 CAD per person.

This fee covers 4.5 days of workshops, activities and instruction. The fee does not cover food; each family does their own cooking. If you are able to pay more than the base fee per person, that will greatly help us meet our expenses!

Additional Fees

If you choose to pay via PayPal rather than bank transfer, a PayPal fee of approximately 3% of your registration & camping fees will be added on top of your total.

You may also choose to make a contribution to help subsidize registration for a low-income attendee, or to help Jam Camp cover its expenses.

Mabel Lake Community Hall

About the Site

Jam Camp on the River will take place at the Mable Lake Community Hall, which is set back in the forest along the Shuswap River, about 13km from Lumby, BC. This venue has been a Jam Camper favourite since the early days, with the sunny beach to lounge on while watching other campers float down the river, the easy access to camping both in the forest and closer to the hall, and the overall beauty of the hall’s grounds. A small enough location to feel like you’ve been transported into the “Jam Camp Bubble”, but big enough to include space for peace and relaxation, two essential elements of the experience!

Access to potable water and flush toilets is easy, as both are located in the Hall. However, please bring a pot or bucket to carry water to and from the Hall. There are lots of campsites available for tenting and limited spaces for RVs (note: no power or septic hook ups). Some tenting is located right next to the Hall while other spots are available further into the forest, or in the lower field. All sites are easily walkable and no more than 5 minutes away from the Hall. There are no showers, but the river is very refreshing! There is no shared kitchen, and campers are asked to prepare their own food. Besides the usual camping list—including your own kitchen gear—please bring a table, since there are a limited number available on site. And of course, all the instruments you can cram in, including your electric ones!

Besides our program and afternoon jamming, there is plenty of fun hiking, swimming and forest play to be found at this camp! Please note that there is no cell service or wifi at this camp, so get ready to unplug (although there is access to power for plug-in electric instruments)! The closest cell service can be found about a 10min drive down the road from the hall.

River Safety

Swimming in the river is very fun, however there are no lifeguards and parents are fully responsible for their children’s safety. Parts of the river are very swift and dangerous and children should never be at the beach unattended. One area of the river is slower and safer but caution is always needed. Bring shoes to wear in the water, it really helps! And floaties or life jackets are really fun.

Getting There

To access the Mabel Lake Community Hall (111 Shuswap Falls Rd) drive north out of Lumby on Mabel Lake Road for about 13 km. Shuswap Falls Rd is on the left (the last road on the left before crossing the bridge on Shuswap river), with a sign that reads “Mable Lake Community Hall”. Drive down Shuswap Falls Rd, and the signs for the hall will be on the right. This link will give you the directions via google maps.
